That is one of the great things about the MyFitnessTrainer.com program. There isn't a long list of foods that you're not allowed to eat. In fact, my clients are often shocked to find out that cheese, pizza, peanut butter, potatoes and bread aren't prohibited. I think so many other diets have restricted food choices, that people subconsciously apply those rules to this program.
Here's why this subject came to mind:
Today I walked into a pizza restaurant to pick up a carry-out pizza order. I bumped into a client who uses the MyFitnessTrainer.com website program. She promptly started to tell me a list of excuses for why she was in the pizza restaurant. I politely listened, the whole time thinking "doesn't she wonder why I'm in the pizza restaurant?" (I never told her what I was doing there, and she didn't ask.)
What I guess she didn't yet realize about MyFitnessTrainer.com is that you can eat foods you love, like pizza. The only thing she'd need to explain would be if she was planning on eating all three of the large pizzas by herself! :D
The great thing about the MyFitnessTrainer.com program is that you can choose the foods you eat and just stay within your calorie and fiber goals and you'll be fine. The trick is to limit the amount of low-fiber or low-quality food each day and to eat enough of the vegetables, fruits and whole grains to make sure you still reach your fiber goal.
So, are there any taboo foods? Well, officially no. But if I were to choose a couple that you'd really be best off avoiding, they'd be sugar, trans fats (found in many store-bought cookies and junk food) and alcohol. If you really crave sugar, I'd highly recommend that you try agave. It's a natural sweetener (that comes from cacti) that doesn't affect your blood sugar levels. That means it doesn't encourage fat storage and roller-coaster energy levels the way sugar does. It still has calories, but it's much better for you. For sweetening drinks, Stevia is another great choice. It is calorie-free and can be found in health stores. Personally, I only like it for sweetening drinks, though.
So, enjoy a piece of pizza here and there. When someone asks "aren't you on a diet?" you can tell them "no, I'm following a meal plan." They are two very different things!
