Sugar Spring Cleaning

Happy Spring!  It's the time of year for renewal and rebirth.  What better time could there be for a pantry "Spring cleaning"?

Now is a great time to clear your pantry of "trouble carbs."  Trouble carbs are those that don't really offer any nutritional value, yet are filled with empty calories.  These include all forms of sugar and processed grains (white flour).  Instead, stock up on whole grains, legumes, vegetables, and fruits.

I'll help you to do that today with articles about stopping sugar cravings, choosing healthier breads, and using natural non-sugar sweeteners.

Cutting sugars and refined flours out of your diet has many benefits besides weight loss.  Here are just a few:

- Reduced risk of cavities and tooth decay
- Reduced risk of diabetes
- Eliminate many headaches
- Reduced risk of cancer, stroke, and heart disease
- Better sleep
- Longer lasting, better energy
- Reduced risk for Candida
- Naturally reduced calorie intake
- Reduced body fat production

To find products with sugar in them, check the ingredients.  It's best to avoid all foods with added sugar, but at least be sure to discard foods where sugar is the first, second or third ingredient!

Here are some pseudonyms for sugar:

Brown sugar
corn syrup
high fructose corn syrup
dextrose
fructose
galactose
sucrose
rice syrup
molasses
maple syrup
lactose
maltose
honey

Many people are somewhat addicted to sugar.  It may be difficult for you to cut back.  For some, it helps to completely cleanse your system of sugar by going "cold turkey."  For others, it's enough to simply cut back.  Either way, your body will definitely reward you for your efforts.

You can use fiber intake to help control your sugar cravings.  Read all about it here

So, please plan to clean your cupboards this week.  It's much harder to eat junk food if it's not in your house.  You'll love the way you feel without all of that sugar in your blood.

Have a great week!
Annette
